Places to eat

The Yorkshire Dales contains many restaraunts, pubs and cafes from the likes of fine dining establishments such as Yoredale House, Stonehouse and Simonstone (of Top Gear steakgate fame) to the quaint cafes such as Aysgarth's Mill Race and everything inbetween. Here we have listed Askriggs eatery options, all within five minutes walk of Sykes House front door.

The Crown

A totally traditional Dales pub that serves good ales and good well prepared traditional meals. Meat comes from the local butcher and fresh seasonal vegetables are offered. Many of the puddings are homemade.
Food is served at lunchtime from 12.00 – 14.00, and evening meals from 18.30 – 20.00 although since COVID the pub has operated a reduced opening policy so it is worth checking its hours before visiting. A selection of local cask ales are always available and the old style wide bore lines twinned with brisk turnover means that these are usually in tip top condition.
Pre-bookings are not taken but the “walk-in” policy means that they will always feed the hungry even if there is a small wait.

The Middle House

The Middle House provides a top class range of food available in the Restaurant, Bar, Lounge and Beer Garden. Transformed since its re-incarnation from “The White Rose” under new owners the “Middle” provides fine dining in equally fine surroundings. Local cask ales are available in the bar.

It is always advisable to book, especially on weekends and during the busy Summer period.

The Kings Arms

Pub that doubled as “The Drovers” in the original BBC series of All Creatures Great and Small and boasts historic features including an impressive inglenook fireplace. Serves fresh locally sourced food. The menu features the best of local, seasonal produce and changes frequently. The emphasis is on excellent quality food served in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. The game comes straight from the local moors and the fish is delivered fresh from Hartlepool docks, both vary according to season and availability.
There is always an interesting variety of vegetarian dishes on the menu and a wholesome, home cooked children’s menu. Local cask ales available.

Lunch & Dinner times:
Lunch Monday to Sunday: 12pm till 2.30pm
Dinner Monday to Saturday: 5.30pm till 9pm
Sunday: 5.30pm till 8pm

Since COVID the pub has reduced its service times so it is always advisable to book a table, particularly during weekends and the busy summer season.

Bakewell

Deli style cafe that offers excellent home baking, snacks, premium coffee and frozen homemade ready meals.

Opening hours are generally 10 -4 although in the summer opening is at 9am.

Seating is limited and on a first come first served basis. Takeaway as well as sit in.
